The body of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Souri was recovered from the Turag River on Saturday, a day after he was reported missing, according to police sources.

Authorities said the body was found in the Tongi Bandar Ghat area after a river police team responded to information received through the national emergency helpline 999.

Constable Md Rakib, who was on duty at the river police control room, confirmed the recovery and said the body was later transported to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue in Dhaka for an autopsy.

Tahsif Souri had previously drawn public attention in connection with a widely circulated video that allegedly showed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina departing the country by aircraft on August 5, 2024. Reports indicated that he was the individual who recorded the footage.

Police said the identity of the deceased was confirmed after a mobile phone and wristwatch belonging to him were recovered with the body.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of death. Officials stated that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident will become clearer once the autopsy report is completed.

The death has attracted significant public interest due to Souri’s previous association with the widely discussed video and his background as a former officer of the Bangladesh Air Force.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are awaiting forensic findings as they work to establish the events leading up to his death.
