Trump Says UK Considering Sending Two Carriers to Middle East, Claims US “Doesn’t Need Them”

President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Britain on Saturday, saying the UK is giving “serious thought” to deploying two aircraft carriers to the Middle East before pointedly adding that the United States does not need British support to win its war with Iran.

“The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer. But we will remember. We don’t need people that join wars after we’ve already won!”

The remarks came shortly after Trump attended the return of the first six US service members killed in the conflict, during a solemn ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

British media reports say the Royal Navy is preparing the HMS Prince of Wales for potential deployment, though officials stress no final decision has been made. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed preparations are underway but said the government has not yet authorised a mission.

Trump has repeatedly criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer in recent weeks, accusing him of hesitating to support US military operations. Starmer initially refused to allow American forces to use British bases for the first wave of strikes on Iran, saying he needed assurances that any action was legal and properly planned. He later approved the use of UK bases for what he described as defensive strikes targeting Iranian missile sites.

The two leaders have clashed before. Earlier this year, Starmer condemned Trump’s comments about European troops in Afghanistan as “frankly appalling” and mocked his proposal to buy Greenland.

The latest dispute underscores the growing strain between Washington and London at a moment of heightened global conflict and as the UK weighs whether to deepen its military involvement in the Middle East.
