Young Woman Fighting for Life After “Horror Story” Crash in Catani

2 min read

A young woman is in critical condition after a violent late‑night crash in Catani that police have described as a “horror story” for a local family. Detective Sergeant Mark Amos from the Major Collision Investigation Unit said the woman, aged in her 20s, was sitting in the rear passenger seat when the vehicle left the road and rolled into a drainage culvert.

Her injuries are life‑threatening. “The young girl in the back seat is in the fight of her life at the moment,” he said.

Police believe the car was travelling north on Heads Road just before midnight on Saturday when it failed to stop at the intersection with Koo Wee Rup–Longwarry Road, south‑west of Warragul. The vehicle crossed the intersection, veered off the road, went down an embankment and overturned into the culvert.

Four people were inside the car. The woman’s mother, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to The Alfred Hospital, where her daughter is also being treated.

Investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances of the crash as the family faces an agonising wait for updates on the young woman’s condition.
