South Korean actor Kim Minha, best known internationally for her breakout role as young Sunja in Apple TV’s acclaimed series Pachinko, has been announced as the host of this year’s Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) opening ceremony.
Minha, who debuted in 2016, has steadily built a diverse portfolio across film and television. Her emotionally rich performance in Pachinko, adapted from Min Jin Lee’s bestselling novel, earned global praise and positioned her as one of Korea’s most promising new‑generation stars. She has since appeared in popular K‑dramas including Light Shop, Way Back Love and Typhoon Family.
BIFF organisers said Minha was selected for the depth, precision and emotional range she brings to her roles, as well as her rising influence in the industry. Known for her poised yet spirited presence, she is expected to bring warmth and confidence to the festival’s opening night.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will run from October 6 to October 15, taking place at the Busan Cinema Center and venues throughout the city.
