A police officer in Dhaka has been removed from his position and taken to the Detective Branch (DB) headquarters for questioning following the circulation of a controversial audio recording on social media.
According to police officials, Inspector Rakibul Islam, the outgoing officer-in-charge of Kamalapur Police Station, was brought to the Detective Branch headquarters at Mintoo Road late Thursday night after being withdrawn from his post.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed that Rakibul was being questioned as part of an ongoing investigation. Reports indicate that a three-member inquiry committee, including Detective Branch personnel, officials from Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters, and a cybercrime specialist, has been formed to examine the matter.
The investigation follows the emergence of an audio clip on social media that allegedly features a voice believed to be Rakibul Islam. In the recording, the speaker reportedly makes comments regarding national political developments and raises allegations concerning corruption and promotion practices within the police force.
Authorities have not publicly verified the authenticity of the audio recording, and the investigation is expected to examine its source, content, and circumstances surrounding its release.
Officials said members of the inquiry team, including a representative from the cybercrime unit, are reviewing the case and questioning the officer as part of the fact-finding process.
The development has attracted public attention, with authorities emphasizing that the matter is under investigation and that conclusions will be based on the findings of the inquiry.
