Edward Bluemel, known for his breakout role in My Lady Jane, has officially been cast as Detective Hercule Poirot in a brand‑new six‑part drama titled Hercule. The series will follow the legendary Belgian sleuth as he tackles his earliest cases in London, long before becoming one of fiction’s most iconic detectives. Filming begins this summer in Liverpool, England.
According to Variety, the show is described as both “an intimate study of Hercule the man” and “an epic portrait of Britain between the wars.” The adaptation will draw from three of Agatha Christie’s most celebrated stories, while also charting Poirot’s formative relationships , including his growing friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his first encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and the introduction of a future nemesis who will shape his career.
Bluemel said he is honoured to take on such a storied role. “I feel very lucky to have been trusted with such an iconic character who has been played by so many great actors,” he said. “I can’t wait to continue Hercule’s legacy.”
Executive producer James Prichard, representing Agatha Christie Limited, also praised the casting. “My father had the privilege of working with David Suchet for nearly 25 years, and I now have the good fortune of being able to share my great grandmother’s brilliant stories with a new generation of viewers,” he said.
