Chelsea have suddenly sacked head coach Enzo Maresca midway through the season. Although the London club’s recent performances were below expectations, many supporters did not anticipate that the manager would be dismissed so abruptly. After the announcement, fans reacted with mixed emotions. Meanwhile, rumors have begun circulating that Chelsea may target Zinedine Zidane or Jürgen Klopp as their next coach.
However, according to the English outlet The Telegraph, the club intends to place its trust in a young and promising manager as part of a long‑term project, rather than hiring a world‑famous and highly experienced coach. In other words, Chelsea are not leaning toward big names like Zidane or Klopp to replace Maresca. The Premier League giants are now searching for a new manager after yet another coaching change at the start of 2026.
The Telegraph also reported on whether Maresca’s dismissal was sudden or planned over time. The club considered him “unsustainable” after Chelsea dropped 15 points this season from winning positions. With the team competing in four major tournaments the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup the board felt a quick decision was necessary.
It has also emerged that Maresca had been in discussions with Manchester City and Juventus about future roles earlier this season. His contract required him to inform Chelsea’s ownership of such talks, but he failed to do so. Once the club learned of this, dissatisfaction grew, ultimately leading to the decision to part ways with him.
