U.S. President Donald Trump says American and Nigerian forces have killed Abu‑Bilal al‑Minuki, described as the second‑in‑command of ISIS worldwide a violent extremist organization responsible for mass atrocities, civilian deaths, and widespread human rights abuses.
In a statement posted late Friday, Mr Trump said the joint mission “flawlessly executed” a complex operation after intelligence sources located the ISIS figure hiding somewhere in Africa. He framed the strike as a major blow against what he called “the most active terrorist in the world.”
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the armed forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission,” he wrote, adding that al‑Minuki “thought he could hide in Africa” but was tracked through reliable sources.
Mr Trump said the militant leader would “no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans,” describing the operation as part of a broader effort to dismantle ISIS networks across multiple regions.
The announcement marks one of the most high‑profile counterterrorism operations involving U.S. and Nigerian cooperation in recent years, underscoring the continued global effort to disrupt ISIS leadership and prevent the group from rebuilding its operational capacity.
