A coastal Tasmanian community still recovering from a recent bushfire is once again on high alert, with the Tasmania Fire Service issuing a Watch and Act for Dolphin Sands as conditions rapidly shift. Authorities warn that the situation may deteriorate quickly and are urging residents to take immediate steps to protect themselves and their homes.
The TFS says people should “take action now to protect yourself, your family, and your home,” stressing that those with a bushfire plan must review it without delay. Residents are being told to decide early whether they will leave and ensure they have a safe, clear route out. For those without a plan, the advice is blunt: be ready to leave, as homes in the area may not be defendable.
The warning comes as a fire burns at McNeills Road, Swansea, travelling east toward Dolphin Sands. While it is not expected to cross the highway at this stage, authorities say the blaze will be difficult to control, and dangerous conditions may develop ahead of the main fire front.
“Embers, smoke and ash may threaten you and your home before the main fire,” the official alert states. “It may become difficult to see and breathe.”
Shifting winds and dry conditions are complicating firefighting efforts, with crews from the Tasmania Fire Service already on the ground. Locals are being urged to stay informed, monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel unless it is safe.
For a community still healing from its last fire emergency, the renewed threat is a stark reminder of how quickly conditions can change and how vital early action can be.
