Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson has shared details of his remarkable physical transformation for his upcoming role in Benny Safdie’s Lizard Music, revealing that he lost more than 22 kilograms (50 pounds) over the course of nearly a year.
The actor, widely known for his dedication to fitness and intense training routines, disclosed that his weight dropped from approximately 127.9kg (282 lbs) during the filming of The Smashing Machine to around 106.5kg (235 lbs) as he prepared for his latest project.
Johnson shared the update in a video posted on Instagram, where he addressed questions from fans about his training regimen, diet, conditioning, and overall approach to maintaining peak physical performance. He said many followers had been curious about how he achieved the significant weight loss while preserving strength and endurance.
The actor explained that the transformation was part of a carefully managed process rather than a rapid change. Following the completion of The Smashing Machine, Johnson went almost immediately into filming the live-action adaptation of Moana, leaving little time for recovery or major physical adjustments.
According to Johnson, carrying extra weight placed considerable strain on his body, particularly after suffering an injury during the filming of The Smashing Machine. He noted that reducing weight was important not only for his upcoming role but also for his overall health, mobility, and recovery.
Known for regularly sharing workout insights and motivational content with his millions of followers, Johnson has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most disciplined actors when it comes to physical preparation for demanding roles. His latest transformation once again highlights the commitment many actors make to meet the requirements of major film productions.
The upcoming Lizard Music, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Benny Safdie, marks another high-profile project for Johnson as he continues to expand his range beyond action films and explore more dramatic roles.
