Sydney Home Invasion Leaves Man With “Life‑Altering” Injuries After Machete Attack

A 23‑year‑old man has suffered life‑altering injuries after four masked intruders armed with machetes stormed a family home in Sydney’s south‑west early Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to Banksia Avenue in Greenacre around 2am, where they found the victim with his left hand severed following a violent confrontation on the first floor of the home.

Superintendent Rod Hart said the attackers kicked in the front door, triggering the home’s security alarm and waking the family upstairs. As the intruders rushed to the first floor, the 23‑year‑old stepped out of his bedroom and was immediately confronted.

“One of the males struck him with what we believe was a machete, severing his hand,” Hart said.

The men then forced the victim’s father to open a safe, stealing a large sum of money before fleeing in a black SUV last seen heading east on Banksia Road.

Police say the family, who run a local business, are well‑known in the community. Investigators do not believe the attack is linked to organised crime.

“What we believe is these people were aware there may have been cash on the premises, and that’s why they were targeted,” Superintendent Hart said.

Detectives are appealing for information as the search for the offenders continues.
