Sri Lanka’s cricket administration is entering a new era after the government removed all previous board officials and installed a nine‑member “transformation committee” to take charge. The sweeping overhaul, announced Wednesday, has already sparked major discussion across the cricket world especially with legendary batter Kumar Sangakkara named as one of the key members.
Alongside Sangakkara, former national players Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny have also been appointed. However, most of the committee is made up of figures from the corporate, legal and political sectors, a shift many believe will bring a fresh, more professional approach to cricket governance.
The committee will be led by former MP and corporate leader Eran Wickramaratne, who stepped down from his party position to take on the role. Corporate executive Avanthi Colombage joins as the only female member, bringing years of management experience to the table.
The government’s move is being viewed as part of a broader structural reform of Sri Lanka Cricket, which has long faced criticism over governance issues. With global attention now fixed on the newly formed committee, expectations are high and so is the pressure to deliver meaningful change.
