Southern Lebanon Still in Ruins as Residents Say Israeli Operations Continue Despite Ceasefire

2 min read

Dust still hangs over the skies of southern Lebanon, where villages remain shattered even as a ceasefire formally holds. Local residents say Israeli forces are continuing operations in the area, demolishing homes and leaving entire communities in ruins. With no promises of relief and no sign the destruction will stop fear and uncertainty dominate daily life.

Lebanon’s ambassador said Beirut had appealed for an end to the devastation, but those requests went unanswered. Reporting by Al Jazeera shows the scale of panic along the border, where many families now believe they may never return to their homes. In videos circulating on social media, whole villages appear flattened, raising doubts about whether anything remains standing.

Recent diplomatic meetings have produced little visible progress. Hezbollah has been cited as a major obstacle in negotiations, deepening political divisions within Lebanon itself. Not everyone supports direct talks with Israel, and the lack of consensus is slowing efforts to secure a lasting solution.

Analysts say any path to stability will require a comprehensive agreement one that not only halts the conflict but ensures the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. Until then, the road to peace remains long and fraught with uncertainty.
