South Australia Police have confirmed that human remains discovered in bushland south of Adelaide last week belong to Jeffrey Robert Mundy, who vanished more than five years ago. The decomposed body was found by a bushwalker near Mount Alma Road in Inman Valley around 5:30pm last Friday, ending years of uncertainty for his family.

Mundy was last seen on December 19, 2020, in the Seaford area. His disappearance was quickly declared a major crime, prompting an extensive investigation under Taskforce Southern. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, who leads the Major Crime Investigation Branch, said the discovery marks a significant turning point.

“Now that we have located Jeff, we will be reviewing all aspects of the initial investigation,” he said.

Police believe there are people who know what happened to Mundy but have never come forward. A $200,000 reward remains on offer for information leading to an arrest. Fielke urged anyone with knowledge even those who stayed silent years ago to reconsider.

“It’s been over five years since Jeff Mundy went missing,” he said. “People’s circumstances and allegiances may have changed. It’s possible those who didn’t speak up then may now be willing to help.”

The renewed investigation aims to uncover the truth behind Mundy’s disappearance and bring long‑awaited answers to his family.
