Construction of the $915 million Powerhouse Parramatta has officially wrapped up, marking a defining moment for Western Sydney as it prepares to welcome one of Australia’s most ambitious cultural institutions as early as September.
The NSW government confirmed the milestone four years after work first began, with builder LendLease formally handing over the site to the Powerhouse team at 5pm yesterday. The completion signals the final shift from construction to installation, curation and activation as the museum gears up for its public debut.
Powerhouse Parramatta will feature seven expansive zones designed to host major exhibitions and large-scale experiences. Among them is a breathtaking 18‑metre‑high space spanning 2,200 square metres. This vast gallery will house Task Eternal, set to become the largest exhibition dedicated to space exploration ever staged in Australia.
The project is being hailed as a transformative cultural investment for Western Sydney, promising to draw national and international audiences while reshaping the region’s creative landscape.
