A Melbourne-based business owner has expressed support for One Nation, citing concerns about migration levels, infrastructure capacity, and the cost of living.
Charanjit Singh, an Australian citizen who migrated from India more than 20 years ago, said he believes the party’s proposal to reduce net overseas migration could help ease pressure on housing, public services, and infrastructure. He argued that Australia’s major political parties have already had opportunities to address these issues.
Singh said his interest in One Nation first developed during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the party’s opposition to vaccine mandates. Although he had previously voted for the Labor Party, he later became a member of One Nation and began attending party events.
According to Singh, his support for the party grew gradually after learning more about its policies and observing its activities firsthand.
The comments come as One Nation has recorded increased support in some national opinion polls and recent electoral gains, including representation in state parliaments in South Australia and Western Australia, as well as success in a federal by-election.
Polling and political analysts have also noted that support for the party includes voters from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting changing patterns within sections of the Australian electorate.
The issue of migration, housing affordability, public services, and cost-of-living pressures remains a subject of ongoing public debate, with different political parties proposing varying approaches to address these challenges.
