Opratim, the 13-year-old son of Comilla University Associate Professor Dr Nahida Begum, was laid to rest on Sunday at Kotbari Bagmara Graveyard following his second namaz-e-janaza, as family members renewed calls for a swift investigation and trial.

The second funeral prayer was held at around 11:00am on Sunday, after which the teenager was buried in the presence of relatives, friends, and well-wishers.

Following the burial, Opratim’s father, KM Firoz Shahriar, appealed to the authorities to ensure a speedy legal process. He said the loss of his only child had been devastating for the family and urged investigators to bring those responsible to justice without delay.

Shahriar said his son was only 13 years old and questioned claims that the teenager could have been involved in any criminal activity. Referring to available CCTV footage, he stated that the footage showed Opratim accompanying others willingly before the incident.

Earlier in the day, the first janaza for Opratim was held at the central playground of Comilla University, where students, teachers, university officials, and local residents gathered to pay their final respects.

Opratim was the only son of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the university’s Department of Bengali. His father, KM Firoz Shahriar, is a businessman. The teenager was a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School and College, Cumilla.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread grief within the university community and beyond, with many expressing condolences to the bereaved family and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

As authorities continue their inquiry, the family and community are awaiting answers while mourning the loss of a young life cut short.
