Brazil may have cruised past Haiti with a confident 3-0 victory, but the result came with an unwelcome blow: Raphinha has been ruled out of the team’s next FIFA World Cup match after suffering a thigh injury.
The Barcelona winger was forced off in the 40th minute, and medical scans have now confirmed damage to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said the injury requires intensive treatment and that it is too early to predict when he will return.
In a statement, the CBF said: “Examinations conducted on Saturday revealed an injury to the posterior muscle of Raphinha’s right thigh. He will undergo intensive treatment and rehabilitation under the supervision of the medical staff, with the aim of returning him to action as soon as possible.”
The injury was immediately concerning for fans and teammates, and those fears have now been validated. While no official timeline has been set, Brazilian outlet Globo reports that the 29‑year‑old could potentially return in time for the Round of 16, depending on his recovery.
Brazil will now face Scotland without one of their key attacking outlets a setback that tempers the optimism generated by their dominant win over Haiti.
