Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, Group CEO of AB Media Group and a member of the Brahmanbaria District BNP, has strongly advocated for the establishment of a new administrative division named “Brahmanbaria Division,” comprising the districts of Kishoreganj, Habiganj, and Brahmanbaria. The proposal recommends Brahmanbaria as the divisional headquarters.
Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, who is also the elder brother of Abdur Rahman Sani, Assistant Private Secretary-2 to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, made the call through a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday night. He argued that the creation of a new division would significantly enhance administrative services, regional development, and economic opportunities for nearly 8.9 million residents across the three districts.
Presenting the rationale behind the proposal, Bhuiyan said the new division could consist of 31 upazilas from the three districts. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) 2022 Population Census, Kishoreganj has a population of 3,267,626, Habiganj 2,358,886, and Brahmanbaria 3,306,559, bringing the combined population to 8,933,071.
He highlighted the region’s vast economic potential, pointing to Kishoreganj’s haor wetlands, agricultural output and fisheries resources, Habiganj’s gas reserves, tea estates and industrial zones, and Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj river port, power plants and Akhaura land port. Bhuiyan said the coordinated development of these strategic assets could transform the region into a powerful economic growth zone.
According to the proposal, the formation of a new division would reduce administrative difficulties faced by local residents and pave the way for improved healthcare services, higher education opportunities, job creation, industrialisation, and transportation infrastructure.
Bhuiyan also stressed the importance of ensuring balanced development and equal importance for all three districts throughout the process.
Beyond his political involvement, Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan is widely recognised as an entrepreneur, development planner, and international businessman. Over the years, he has established and invested in businesses across the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia, contributing to international trade, media, and business development initiatives.
