Afghanistan Accuses Pakistan of New Deadly Airstrikes, At Least 13 Killed as Cross‑Border Tensions Intensify

Afghanistan said on Wednesday that Pakistan carried out fresh airstrikes inside its territory, killing at least 13 people and wounding 14 others, in what marks the latest escalation in months of deadly cross‑border clashes.

Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the strikes targeted the eastern provinces of Khost, Kunar and Paktika, killing 11 children, one woman and one elderly man. Pakistan has not yet publicly acknowledged the strikes.

The two countries have been locked in a cycle of retaliatory attacks since late February, when Afghanistan launched a cross‑border strike in response to earlier Pakistani airstrikes. Hundreds have been killed on both sides in the months‑long confrontation.

Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of harboring militants, particularly the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), who carry out deadly attacks inside Pakistan. The TTP is separate from but closely aligned with the Afghan Taliban, which has ruled Afghanistan since taking power in 2021 following the withdrawal of US‑led forces. Kabul denies providing sanctuary to the group.

With both governments trading accusations and violence continuing to rise, regional observers warn that the conflict risks spiralling further unless diplomatic channels are restored.
