Geelong Line Chaos Continues as Commuters Brace for More Cancellations

V/Line passengers on the Geelong line are being warned to expect further disruptions today after a chaotic Wednesday left crowds stranded for hours and tempers running high. A major fault halted services between Wyndham Vale and Waurn Ponds, forcing commuters onto replacement buses that were quickly overwhelmed.

Some passengers reported waiting up to three hours for a bus. Geelong resident Robert Watkins described scenes of confusion and massive queues stretching across Wyndham Vale station.

“The line of people was about five to six wide, and it expanded from the bus stop all the way to the station concourse,” he said. “I’d estimate it was in the thousands definitely beyond that.”

Passengers had been told to expect a 90‑minute journey on replacement buses, but the delays far exceeded that as the network struggled to cope with the sudden surge.

A V/Line spokesperson said the fault linked to telecommunications works between Wyndham Vale and Lara is still under investigation. “We thank Geelong and Warrnambool line passengers for their patience,” the spokesperson said, acknowledging the widespread disruption across the network.

With the cause yet to be resolved, commuters are being urged to plan for further cancellations and extended travel times.
