In a remarkable stroke of luck, another Bangladeshi expatriate has won gold in the United Arab Emirates lottery just four days after a similar win by another compatriot. The latest winner is Mohammad Haidar Ali, a 31-year-old resident of Al Ain, who secured 250 grams of 24-carat gold, valued at over 40 lakh Bangladeshi taka. The news was reported by Gulf News on Thursday, October 30.
Haidar works as a sales assistant in an electronics shop. For the past two years, he and a group of four to five friends have been regularly purchasing lottery tickets together. Their persistence finally paid off with this major win.
According to Gulf News, when lottery officials called to inform him of his victory, Haidar initially thought it was a prank. He even asked the host, “How many grams of gold did I win?” Believing at first that his friends were joking, he was overwhelmed with joy once the truth sank in.
Haidar and his friends celebrated the win, though he has yet to decide what he will do with the gold bars.
