Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka early Monday for New York to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), leading a delegation that includes senior figures from across Bangladesh’s political spectrum.

An Emirates flight carrying Yunus departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:40 a.m. He is accompanied by five political leaders: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizen Party (NCP) member-secretary Akhter Hossen, and NCP’s senior joint member secretary Dr Tasnim Jara.

From the United States, Jamaat leader Mohammad Nakibur Rahman will also join the delegation.

The Chief Adviser is scheduled to deliver Bangladesh’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate on 26 September. His speech is expected to highlight the interim government’s reform agenda, democratic transition, and Bangladesh’s positions on global issues including climate change, peacekeeping, and the Rohingya crisis.

Yunus will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the assembly. He is expected to return to Dhaka on 2 October.
