Ahead of the Asia Cup, set to begin in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, 9 September, cricket website ESPNcricinfo has unveiled its all-time best Asia T20I XI with Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan earning a place as the only representative from his country.
Selected by a panel of experts, the team features players from across the continent, with India contributing the highest number four cricketers followed by Sri Lanka with three, Pakistan with two, and Afghanistan and Bangladesh with one each. Shakib has been named as a spin-bowling all-rounder alongside Pakistan’s former star Shahid Afridi.
The XI opens with Sri Lankan greats Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene, followed by India’s Virat Kohli at number three, Suryakumar Yadav at four, and captain-wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at five. Shakib slots in at six, with Afridi at seven. Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan takes the eighth spot, while the pace attack comprises Pakistan’s Umar Gul, India’s Jasprit Bumrah, and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga.
Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal has been named as the 12th man. The selection reflects a blend of explosive batting, versatile all-round ability, and world-class bowling celebrating the finest T20I performers Asia has produced.
