US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier in the day had “left a devastating number of deaths,” even though no official casualty figures have yet been released by Venezuelan authorities.
“The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, calling the early situation “not good.”
Trump added that the United States “stands ready, willing, and able to help,” saying he had instructed all federal agencies to prepare for a rapid response should Venezuela request assistance. His comments came as rescue teams in Caracas and surrounding regions continued searching for survivors trapped under collapsed buildings following the twin quakes.
The remarks follow widespread destruction reported across the country, with interim President Delcy Rodríguez preparing to declare a state of emergency and seek international support.
