A suspended Queensland police officer accused of a string of serious offences including violence against women, misuse of police systems and threatening self‑harm has been granted bail after spending a night in the watch house.
Detective Senior Constable John Paul Daniel McDonnell, 36, was first charged in March with one count of unlawful stalking (domestic violence offence) while off duty. Following further investigation, police arrested him again on Monday, adding a wide range of new charges.
The latest allegations include:
Three counts of misconduct in public office
Two counts of common assault
Two counts of computer hacking and misuse
One count of unlawful stalking
One count of dangerous conduct with a weapon
One count of entering a dwelling and committing a domestic violence offence
One count of deprivation of liberty
One count of distributing intimate images
Two counts of distributing prohibited visual recordings
Police allege the offences occurred over several years, both while McDonnell was on duty and off duty. The court heard the alleged conduct involved multiple women.
McDonnell, who worked within the Crime Command, appeared via video link before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday. After reviewing the material, the magistrate granted him bail with conditions.
The case will return to court as investigations continue.
