A young student who survived the deadly shooting at Debsirin School has recounted the harrowing moments she fled for her life, as Thailand’s national police chief confirmed the gunman’s shots were “highly accurate” and aimed at vital parts of the body.
National police chief Gen Kittiratt Phanphet told reporters that forensic teams found the attacker’s gunfire was precise and deliberate. Thailand’s prime minister described the assault as “well prepared,” saying the shooter followed “clear steps and clear goals” as he moved through the school.
The student, still wearing her school uniform and sitting beside her mother, said she was speaking to the prime minister when the gunman appeared and opened fire. “I couldn’t see anything but a cloud of dust,” she said, recalling how the shooter stalked room to room. She escaped by climbing over the school fence with several classmates.
Her mother said the girl feared she would never make it out alive. “She said, ‘I thought I’d never see you again.’
Another student told Reuters he initially mistook the gunfire for firecrackers. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
Students and staff were seen running from the campus, while families waiting outside Debsirin School appeared visibly distraught as the scale of the tragedy became clear.
