Queensland Deputy Premier Rejects Calls to Review Olympics Contractor Amid Bikie‑Link Allegations

1 min read

Queensland Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie says he will not review the Olympics construction contract awarded to major developer BMD, despite allegations aired this week in the CFMEU commission of inquiry that the company hired a security firm linked to the Comancheros outlaw motorcycle gang.

The inquiry has placed BMD under intense scrutiny, prompting a strongly worded statement from the CFMEU administrator, who labelled the alleged conduct “morally repugnant.”

BMD was appointed in July to carry out early works at Victoria Park, the site of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games stadium. Bleijie said he was unaware of the allegations at the time the contract was awarded.

“I didn’t award the contract GIICA (Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority) awarded the contract after an independent procurement process,” he said.

BMD said it would not comment further while the inquiry continues.

The allegations come at a sensitive moment for the state government, which has promoted BMD as a “Queensland‑born and bred” company central to delivering early Olympic infrastructure.
