Prince Harry has offered one of his most heartfelt reflections yet on fatherhood, revealing that he consciously mirrors the warm, affectionate parenting style of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, when comforting his own children.
Speaking on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast, the Duke of Sussex recalled how Diana would hug him and his brother “as tight as possible” a gesture he now repeats with Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, especially after a difficult day. He described the moment as a grounding ritual that keeps him connected to the lessons his mother instilled.
Harry shared the reflection just before Archie and Lilibet visited their grandfather, King Charles, marking their first meeting in four years a milestone that added emotional weight to the Duke’s comments. Throughout the interview, he was warm, candid and deeply personal as he discussed the values shaping his parenting.
“The resilience of kids is amazing, and the way they view life is so incredibly refreshing,” Harry said. He added that no matter what challenges arise, he ends each day with the same gesture: “If a day is hard, one thing I will do is always squeeze my kids that extra, extra tight.”
His words offered a rare glimpse into how he carries Diana’s legacy forward not through grand gestures, but through everyday moments of closeness, reassurance and love.
