Bangladesh is preparing to transform its tourism landscape with a sweeping integrated master plan that will cover 1,498 tourist spots across the country. The initiative aims to build a tourism sector that is not only modern and competitive, but also eco‑friendly, community‑driven and sustainable for future generations.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat shared the update in parliament, noting that the master plan is in its final stages. He said the government is prioritising a community‑based tourism model, ensuring local residents are directly involved in tourism activities and benefit from development in their regions. This approach, he added, will help preserve cultural identity while strengthening economic opportunities.
Millat highlighted that visitor safety remains a key focus, with steps underway to increase the manpower of the Tourist Police. At the same time, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs are preparing to work jointly to expand cultural tourism. A memorandum of understanding will soon be signed, followed by a standard operating procedure and a joint task force to accelerate implementation.
To elevate Bangladesh’s global image, the government has launched the Beautiful Bangladesh branding campaign. Work is progressing on the official tourism website, beautifulbangladesh.gov.bd, which will serve as a central platform to showcase the country’s attractions to international travellers.
Millat said the government is committed to developing tourist destinations in an environmentally responsible manner, improving facilities and ensuring that local communities remain active partners in the process. The master plan, alongside the upcoming tourism policy and related initiatives, is expected to create a coordinated national framework that will make Bangladesh’s tourism sector more resilient, inclusive and globally appealing.
