Dhaka residents woke to a burst of heavy rain early Wednesday, offering brief relief from the previous night’s humidity but causing widespread disruption during the busy morning rush. Office‑goers, students and daily workers were among the worst affected as the downpour slowed traffic and flooded key parts of the capital.
The rain began around 6:45am, immediately triggering congestion on major roads. Waterlogging in low‑lying neighbourhoods forced commuters to take longer routes, while many pedestrians huddled under shop awnings and building ledges to stay dry. Those who stepped out unprepared were drenched within minutes, and even umbrellas proved little help as shoes and clothing soaked through.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the unstable weather was not limited to Dhaka. At least 17 regions across the country are expected to face gusty or squally winds. The morning forecast warned that areas including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet may experience temporary west or north‑westerly gusts reaching 45–60 km/h, accompanied by thunderstorms.
Inland river ports in these regions have been instructed to hoist warning signal number 1.
The adverse conditions are expected to persist across northern, central and coastal areas until 1pm, with authorities urging caution for commuters and transport operators.
