Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell remain one of Hollywood’s most enduring love stories four decades strong, deeply devoted, and still famously unmarried. While celebrity romances often fade, theirs continues to thrive on their own terms.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during her appearance at Goldie Hawn in Conversation with Jonathan Haidt: The After‑School Kindness Crew, the Oscar‑winning actress explained why she and Russell never felt the need to make it official. “We thought that by getting married that was actually going to take something from both of us that we didn’t want. We want to choose each other every day,” she said, as reported by People.
Hawn and Russell have been together since 1983, and she credits the longevity of their relationship to a shared belief in independence and emotional freedom. “I don’t like ownership, you know? And I must say that I think Kurt feels the same way,” she told the outlet, adding with her signature humour, “If they close the door on me, I’d probably get rid of all my feathers and become a bird with no feathers.”
The actress also couldn’t help but gush about the man she’s built her life with. “He’s kind, he’s funny, he’s romantic, he’s a wonderful person,” she said. “Kurt and I are just living our life together. We’ve got great kids. It’s the right match.”
Their blended family includes Russell’s son Boston from his marriage to Season Hubley, Hawn’s children Oliver and Kate Hudson from her relationship with Bill Hudson, and their shared son, Wyatt Russell. Over the years, the couple have become a beloved Hollywood fixture proof that commitment doesn’t always need a marriage certificate.
