Earlier on the same day, authorities had also received reports of a possible drone sighting near the airport, adding to security concerns.

The incident comes amid heightened vigilance across Europe, where governments and security agencies have increased monitoring of airspace following a growing number of unexplained drone incidents and security threats.

European authorities have become particularly concerned about potential sabotage and interference operations as the war in Ukraine continues.

Last month, the German government accused Russia of being linked to an attempted attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport involving a drone allegedly carrying explosives. In response, Berlin announced a series of measures, including the closure of a Russian consulate.

Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the allegations, while Moscow has consistently denied accusations from Western governments regarding sabotage operations in Europe.

Western officials have repeatedly claimed that Russia has been engaged in a broader campaign of disruption and interference aimed at undermining support for Ukraine and destabilising European nations. Russia has denied those allegations.

The latest incident at Nuremberg Airport highlights the heightened security environment facing European aviation authorities, who continue to monitor potential threats ranging from drone activity to suspicious aircraft emergencies.

Officials have not indicated that the passenger flight posed any ongoing danger after its safe landing, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the emergency alert are continuing.
