The notifications, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, were released on Friday night.

One gazette stated:

The second notification confirmed his formal assumption of duties:
“Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed the office of the president of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh today, Friday, 6 Bhadra 1433/21 August 2026.”

BNP‑nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul, who previously served as the party’s secretary general and as LGRD minister in the incumbent government, was elected president by members of parliament on 20 August. The Election Commission issued its own gazette the same day, officially declaring him elected.

Veteran politician Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as Bangladesh’s 23rd president on Friday evening, formally beginning his five‑year term, which will run until 21 August 2031, barring unforeseen circumstances.

The oath was administered by Acting Speaker Kayser Kamal at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
