President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on people of all faiths and communities to work together in a spirit of mutual respect and harmony to build an inclusive, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh.

The president made the remarks on Sunday when a delegation of the Sri Sri Hari-Guruchand Matua Mission Central Committee, led by its President Sri Padmanabha Thakur, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.

According to President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam, the president emphasized the importance of preserving the unity and communal harmony that have long been central to Bangladesh’s national identity and social fabric.

He noted that people from different religious communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians, had fought side by side during the country’s Liberation War and contributed collectively to Bangladesh’s independence.

“People from all communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians, fought together in the country’s Liberation War. Bangladesh achieved independence through their unity,” the President said.

The president stressed that the spirit of unity forged during the Liberation War should continue to guide the nation and warned against any attempts to undermine communal harmony or social cohesion.

“Any attempt to undermine this unity and harmony must be firmly resisted,” he added.

Referring to the longstanding social and cultural bonds among Bangladesh’s religious communities, particularly the relationship between Hindus and Muslims, Mirza Fakhrul urged citizens to remain vigilant and committed to protecting the country’s tradition of peaceful coexistence.

He said strengthening communal harmony is essential for maintaining social stability, democratic values, and sustainable national development.

The meeting highlighted the importance of interfaith understanding and cooperation as Bangladesh continues its efforts to promote inclusiveness, religious tolerance, and national unity.
