Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has sought Russia’s assistance in strengthening the cybersecurity capabilities of the Bangladesh Police, with a focus on specialised training, technical expertise, and capacity-building initiatives.
The request was made during a courtesy meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, according to a statement issued by the Police Headquarters.
During the meeting, the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia in the field of law enforcement, particularly in cybercrime prevention, cybersecurity preparedness, and professional development for police personnel.
The Russian ambassador thanked the Bangladesh Police for ensuring the security of Russian nationals working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and expressed satisfaction with the activities of the Diplomatic Security Division. He also conveyed Russia’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of Bangladesh Police.
Welcoming the proposal, IGP Ali Hossain Fakir emphasized the importance of regular engagement between senior police officials from both countries. He highlighted the value of sharing information, expertise, and best practices to address emerging security challenges, particularly in the digital space.
The IGP also underscored the growing importance of cybersecurity as technology-driven crimes become more sophisticated, stressing the need for advanced training and international cooperation to improve law enforcement readiness.
The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Bangladesh Police to enhance its technological capabilities and strengthen partnerships with international counterparts in tackling cyber threats, transnational crime, and other modern security challenges
