Rabada Rocks Australia as South Africa Close In on Test Series Victory

2 min read

South Africa seized control of the third Test after fast-bowling spearhead Kagiso Rabada tore through Australia’s top order, leaving the hosts facing an uphill battle in their pursuit of victory and the series.

Chasing 288 runs to win the third Test and secure the series, Australia suffered a nightmare start as Rabada struck twice in the opening over of their second innings.

The South African paceman first removed Matthew Renshaw, who was caught down the leg side, before trapping Marnus Labuschagne lbw moments later to leave Australia under immediate pressure.

Rabada’s dominance continued when he dismissed Travis Head for 14, finding the edge and sending the batter to the pavilion courtesy of a catch at fourth slip.

The wicket also marked a major personal milestone for the South African quick, becoming Rabada’s 350th Test wicket, further cementing his status as one of the leading fast bowlers of his generation.

With Australia requiring 288 runs and South Africa needing just 10 wickets to clinch victory, the match remains delicately poised. However, the tourists have gained a significant advantage after reducing Australia’s top order and putting their batting lineup under severe pressure.

South Africa’s bowlers will now look to capitalise on the early breakthroughs, while Australia must rely on its middle and lower order to mount a recovery and keep hopes of a series win alive.

As the contest heads into its decisive stages, all eyes will remain on Rabada and South Africa’s attack as they push to complete a memorable Test triumph.
