Australian Travellers Warned After Cybersecurity Breach Hits Booking Software Provider

2 min read

Australian travellers are being urged to remain vigilant after a cybersecurity incident involving RMS Cloud, a booking and property management software provider used by thousands of accommodation businesses worldwide.

The breach is understood to have affected several major holiday park operators, including BIG4 Holiday Parks, Reflections Holidays, and G’day Parks, through their use of RMS Cloud’s booking management platform.

According to the company’s website, RMS Cloud provides cloud-based property management and reservation systems to more than 6,000 hotels, holiday parks, and serviced apartments globally.

While details of the breach remain limited, concerns have been raised that customer information may have been exposed, potentially placing travellers at risk of scams and fraudulent communications.

One of Australia’s largest holiday park networks, BIG4, confirmed that guests had been targeted by scammers following a security incident involving a third-party booking platform.

The company warned customers to be cautious of unexpected emails, phone calls, text messages, or payment requests claiming to be associated with accommodation bookings.

Cybersecurity experts often advise affected customers to:

Be alert to phishing emails and suspicious messages.
Verify any payment requests directly with accommodation providers.
Monitor bank accounts and credit card activity.
Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.
Change passwords if the same credentials have been used on multiple services.

The full extent of the breach and the number of customers potentially affected have not yet been publicly confirmed.

Authorities and impacted businesses are continuing to investigate the incident, while accommodation providers are working to inform customers of any risks associated with the data exposure.
