At least three civilians were killed and dozens more injured in a new wave of Russian attacks across Ukraine, local officials said on Saturday, as the conflict continues to escalate and pressure mounts on Ukrainian cities ahead of winter.
The latest strikes came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the deployment of European troops to Ukraine would amount to a direct confrontation with Russia, adding to concerns about a further widening of the conflict.
In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, two people were killed and another wounded after Russian drones struck a residential area overnight, according to regional authorities. Emergency crews were deployed to the scene as rescue operations continued in the affected neighborhood.
Meanwhile, officials in Kryvyi Rih reported that one person was killed and three others were injured following separate strikes on the city. Damage assessments and recovery efforts were ongoing as local authorities worked to assist residents impacted by the attacks.
The Black Sea port city of Odesa was among the hardest-hit locations. Regional Governor Oleh Kiper described the assault as a “massive attack” that left 35 people wounded. Among the structures damaged was a residential high-rise building, with its upper floors reportedly suffering extensive destruction.
Ukraine has faced an increasingly intense Russian air campaign in recent months, with ballistic missiles and advanced drones frequently targeting infrastructure and urban centers. Ukrainian officials say many of the attacks have focused on the country’s power grid and civilian areas as winter approaches, raising concerns about energy security and public welfare.
The latest assaults underscore the continuing human toll of the conflict, with civilian casualties mounting as both sides remain locked in a prolonged and increasingly complex war.
