Ukraine has suffered its deadliest month for civilians in more than two years, according to a new United Nations report that warns Russia’s escalating long‑range missile campaign is inflicting unprecedented harm.
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine said June recorded at least 293 civilian deaths, surpassing the already grim toll reported in May. It marks the highest monthly figure since April 2022, when Russia’s full‑scale invasion was still in its early and most chaotic phase.
The surge in casualties reflects Moscow’s intensified use of long‑range strikes, which have repeatedly hit residential areas, public infrastructure and cities far from the front line. UN officials say the pattern of attacks is placing unbearable pressure on emergency services and deepening the humanitarian crisis across the country.
The report underscores the growing danger faced by civilians as the conflict enters its fifth year, with no sign of de‑escalation and missile barrages continuing to strike urban centres.
