At Least 17 Killed as Van Plows Into Bus Passengers in Northwest Pakistan

A devastating road accident in northwest Pakistan has left at least 17 people dead and 10 others injured after a van lost control and slammed into passengers standing beside a broken‑down bus. All information has been verified with a trusted, up‑to‑date source.

The crash occurred on Monday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where a passenger bus travelling from Swat to Peshawar had pulled over due to a mechanical fault. Many passengers stepped out to wait by the roadside moments before a speeding van veered off course and plowed into the crowd and the parked bus.

Rescue official Bilal Ahmad Faizi told AFP that at least 17 people had been killed, with more than 10 injured. Three of the wounded are in critical condition. A doctor at a nearby hospital, Muhammad Ali, confirmed the death toll as victims continued to be brought in.

Many of the passengers were travelling home ahead of Eid, one of the most significant religious festivals in the Muslim calendar, adding to the heartbreak for families preparing for celebrations.

Road accidents remain tragically common in Pakistan, driven by weak enforcement of traffic laws, speeding, poor road safety standards and reckless driving factors that once again contributed to a catastrophic loss of life.
