New Zealand may have fallen short in the one‑day series, but they depart Bangladesh with plenty to be proud of after several fringe players delivered standout performances across formats. With senior names away on franchise commitments and Tom Latham sidelined by a foot injury, the tour became an unexpected showcase for emerging talent.
Stand‑in captain Nick Kelly reflected positively on the campaign, praising those who seized their opportunity.
“Foxy (Dean Foxcroft) obviously had a great tour with the bat and with the ball. Will O’Rourke with the one‑dayers, obviously coming back from injury some great signs there. And Jayden (Lennox), every time he’s bowled with the Black Cap jersey on he’s been very impressive,” Kelly said. “So those guys can get on the plane tonight pretty happy.”
Kelly added that the performances have intensified competition for spots once the senior players return.
“It puts a bit of pressure on the guys who were previously in the team. They’re there for a reason, but it also just builds great depth,” he noted. “There will be times when those guys are unavailable again through injury or for whatever reason. And when the guys who come in and play these types of tours, they’ve got the confidence that they’ve done it before.”
Despite the series defeat, the tour has strengthened New Zealand’s depth chart a promising sign ahead of a busy international calendar.
