Australia Post Opens $50 Million “Air and Speed Hub” to Supercharge Queensland Deliveries

Australia Post has unveiled a massive new $50 million “air and speed hub” in Brisbane a state‑of‑the‑art facility designed to dramatically accelerate parcel deliveries across Queensland as online shopping continues to surge.

Spanning 79,000 square metres, the hub is capable of processing up to 250,000 parcels a day and has been described as the largest industrial project ever completed at Brisbane Airport. The investment comes as Queenslanders embrace e‑commerce at record levels, spending $17.8 billion online last year alone.

Australia Post Group CEO and Managing Director Paul Graham said the new hub is built to meet and exceed the state’s delivery needs for decades. “Queenslanders spent $17.8 billion online last year so we know they love their online shopping,” he said. “It’s why we’re committed to investing in the right infrastructure that gives us a competitive edge to keep pace with demand.”

The facility provides direct airside access, allowing parcels to move from aircraft to processing lines in minutes, significantly speeding up delivery times for customers, including those in regional and remote communities. Australia Post says the hub will deliver an “immediate boost” to operations and serves as a “blueprint for speed and simplicity.”

The site also includes a dedicated area for biosecurity teams from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Border Force, along with climate‑controlled respite rooms designed to give detector dogs a quiet, dark space to rest between shifts.

Minister for Communications Anika Wells said the new hub will strengthen the reliability of postal services across the state. “This new state‑of‑the‑art facility will increase delivery speeds and reliability for Queensland households and businesses,” she said.
