A 67‑year‑old man has been charged with murder after police discovered the body of a woman south‑west of Melbourne on Saturday afternoon, bringing a three‑day missing‑person investigation to a tragic end.
The 53‑year‑old Dandenong woman was reported missing on Thursday, prompting local police and detectives to launch inquiries. According to Victoria Police, early checks revealed she had not contacted her family as expected, and the circumstances were quickly deemed suspicious.
Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad located a woman’s body on Saturday in the vicinity of Little River Road and the Princes Freeway at Little River. While formal identification is yet to take place, investigators believe the remains belong to the missing woman.
As part of the investigation, police arrested a Patterson Lakes man on Friday at Melbourne Airport as he attempted to board an international flight. He has since been charged with murder, remanded in custody, and is expected to appear before a bail and remand court on Sunday.
The discovery has shocked the community and brought renewed focus to the work of Victoria’s Missing Persons Squad, which continues to piece together the woman’s final movements.
