A one‑of‑a‑kind state funeral will be held later this month in Bendigo to honour Russell Jack AM, the visionary founder of the city’s Golden Dragon Museum. Please confirm all public‑event information with a trusted source.

Mr Jack also known by his Cantonese name Russell Goldfield (Louey Yeung Man) Jack AM passed away on August 11. His farewell will take place on Saturday, August 29, featuring a traditional Cantonese mourning lion ceremony the first of its kind in Bendigo in more than a century.

As a long‑serving leader of the Bendigo Chinese Association, Mr Jack dedicated decades to preserving the heritage brought to the Bendigo goldfields by generations of Chinese Australians. His establishment of the Golden Dragon Museum ensured those traditions were protected, celebrated and passed on.

He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1993 for his service to preserving Bendigo’s Chinese culture and history.

Former premier Jacinta Allan said Mr Jack “played a giant role in shaping” Bendigo, while Victorian Premier Ben Carroll said “Russell loved Bendigo and Bendigo loved him,” praising his lifetime of service and enduring legacy.

Mr Jack’s daughter, Anita Jack, said it was fitting that her father’s farewell would “return to one of the oldest and most solemn traditions of southern Chinese culture.”
