Netflix subscribers in the United States will soon be paying more to keep up with hits like Bridgerton, Virgin River and the platform’s growing slate of blockbuster films and series. The streaming giant has announced its first price rise since January 2025, coming just a day after it streamed MLB’s Opening Day matchup between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants.
According to updated details on Netflix’s Help Center, the ad‑supported plan will increase by $1 to $8.99 per month, while the ad‑free tiers will rise by $2. The company, which reported more than 325 million paying subscribers globally in January, continues to dominate the streaming landscape despite fierce competition.
The price hike follows a turbulent month in the entertainment industry. Netflix recently walked away from its attempt to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery after declining to match Paramount–Skydance’s bid. Yet the streamer is still riding a wave of momentum after a strong showing at the Academy Awards, where it earned three Oscars for Frankenstein and two for KPop Demon Hunters. A sequel to the animated hit has already been announced.
For viewers, the message is clear: the cost of streaming prestige content is climbing once again and Netflix is betting its lineup is strong enough to keep audiences locked in.
