Vinicius Jr delivered another electric performance at the Bernabéu, scoring twice from the penalty spot as Real Madrid swept aside Real Sociedad 4-1 on Saturday to move provisionally top of LaLiga. The victory lifted Madrid to 60 points, two ahead of Barcelona, who still have a game in hand before their trip to Girona on Monday.
Madrid struck early. Just five minutes in, 21‑year‑old Gonzalo García, starting in place of the rested Kylian Mbappé, guided a Trent Alexander‑Arnold cross into the bottom corner past Alex Remiro. But the visitors hit back in the 21st minute when Dean Huijsen fouled Yangel Herrera, allowing Mikel Oyarzabal to equalise from the spot.
Parity lasted only four minutes. Jon Aramburu brought down Vinicius inside the box, and the Brazilian calmly sent Remiro the wrong way to restore Madrid’s lead. The hosts were in full flow, and Federico Valverde made it 3-1 in the 31st minute with a superb curling finish into the top corner after another incisive run from Vinicius.
Three minutes into the second half, Vinicius struck again. After nutmegging Aramburu on a rapid counterattack, he was clipped from behind and converted his second penalty of the night, tucking it just inside the left post. Madrid nearly added a fifth when Gonzalo broke free in the 70th minute, only for Jon Martín to produce a desperate block on the goal line.
Vinicius thought he had sealed a hat‑trick in the 89th minute with a header from a free kick, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
“We made a great match near flawless,” Valverde told Real Madrid TV. “We could have scored even more, but the important thing is that we won in decisive fashion.”
With eight straight league wins and Vinicius in irresistible form, Real Madrid’s title charge continues to gather momentum.
