Berlin’s main airport has restarted operations after black ice forced a temporary halt to all flights earlier on Friday. The airport authority said services are resuming, but passengers should still expect major disruptions.
Germany has been hit by heavy snow and freezing rain during a prolonged cold snap, causing widespread delays across air, road, and rail networks.
De‑icing problems caused earlier cancellations
On Thursday, airlines were forced to delay or cancel departures when aircraft could not be de‑iced rain was freezing instantly on contact, making the process unsafe.
Airport urges passengers to monitor flight status
“BER Airport is resuming flight operations. However, significant delays and cancellations are still occurring. Airlines decide independently whether flights will operate or be canceled,” the airport said in a statement on X.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status frequently.
