Amid escalating labour unrest, strikes, and blockades that have severely disrupted operations at Chattogram Port, the port authority has called an emergency meeting to determine immediate steps for restoring normal activity. A letter issued on February 4 by the port secretary states that the meeting aims to stabilise overall port functions, clear bottlenecks in cargo unloading and loading, and find a solution to the ongoing turmoil.
Recent protests and work stoppages over various worker demands have paralysed key sections of the port, directly affecting import‑export activities and slowing the country’s trade flow. With mounting pressure from businesses and logistics operators, the port authority is bringing all relevant stakeholders to the table in hopes of reaching a swift resolution.
Officials are optimistic that effective decisions from the emergency meeting will help restore normal operations quickly and ease the growing congestion at the port.
