Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) Election Held Peacefully

The Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) election was conducted peacefully on Tuesday, with students participating enthusiastically despite long waits and various logistical challenges. Voting began at 9am and continued until 3pm.

Voting Across 39 Centers

Balloting took place at 178 booths across 39 centers on campus. On the same day, voting was also completed for the university’s only female dormitory union election.

Strict security measures were in place throughout the campus and surrounding areas. Alongside police, Rover Scouts and BNCC members assisted in maintaining order.

Over 16,000 Registered Voters

This year’s JAKSU and hall union elections included:

  • 16,645 total registered voters
  • 157 candidates contesting 21 central union posts
  • 33 candidates contesting 13 hall union posts

Female dormitory residents cast votes on two separate ballots one for the hall union and one for the central union.

Major Panels in the Election

Prominent panels in the race included:

  • ‘Oikkoboddho Nirbhik Jobian’ (backed by Chhatra Dal)
  • ‘Odommo Jobian Oikko’ (backed by Chhatra Shibir)
  • ‘Oikkoboddho Jobian’ (backed by Chhatra Shakti)
  • Mowlana Bhashani Brigade (left‑leaning panel)

Independent candidates also contested in several positions.
